The SEC granted a five-year temporary exemption to tokenized U.S. stock trading, but that doesn’t mean “U.S. stocks are fully on-chain.”
NewsBTC says qualified tokenized securities trading venues can trade tokenized U.S. NMS stocks via a permissioned AMM and liquidity pools, but the conditions are very clear: the rights represented by tokenized stocks must match those of traditional stocks, the smart contracts must be auditable, and when the underlying stocks are halted, on-chain trading must be paused in lockstep.
This looks more like regulators first opening a clearly defined pilot channel, rather than throwing open all the doors. From an observation standpoint, on one side, the compliance narrative around RWA and on-chain securities infrastructure may be amplified more easily; on the other, public chains like those supporting ETH and SOL that carry asset issuance and settlement may see sentiment benefit first, but in the short term it’s more suitable to watch for theme spillover.
Are you more interested in how this exemption will drive the RWA narrative, or in the real-world deployment of public-chain infrastructure?
