Sun Yuchen spends $190 million to go to space; Ctrip says $5.1 million is enough—did Sun buy it 40 times too expensive?

Sun Yuchen bought a ticket for a Blue Origin spaceflight in 2021: $28 million.
The Virgin Galactic tickets newly listed by Ctrip: RMB 5.1 million (about $750,000).

Both are suborbital flights, but Sun’s trip cost nearly 40 times more. Of course, one is an auction for a launch-day seat, and the other is a mass-production ticket—so the pricing logic is different. But that’s exactly the most interesting part:
In just four years, the price structure for space travel has shifted from the “auction house” to “e-commerce promotions.”
After August 2025, Blue Origin has already temporarily suspended ticket sales. Virgin Galactic is the only provider. The company’s early-year quota of 50 seats at $750k was oversubscribed, and it then announced the next batch of tickets would be priced higher.

The space race track is repeating the path Tesla took back then: rich people’s toy → middle-class target → standard equipment.
Looking back, the crypto world is the same: BTC went from a geek’s toy to institutional allocation, taking 15 years…
