Bitcoin’s market value surpasses Tesla again

On September 19, according to metrics such as 8MarketCap, the market cap of $BTC was about $1.63 trillion—re-entering the global assets top fifteen and surpassing Tesla by roughly $1.44 trillion. That day, Bitcoin was around the $81,000 range. Tesla’s U.S.-listed shares fell by about half a percentage point on Friday.

This is the ranking change after a price rebound, not a new fundamental narrative. The two algorithms differ: Bitcoin is ranked by total circulating market cap across the entire network, while Tesla is ranked by shares outstanding multiplied by the share price. On weekends, crypto is still trading while U.S. stocks are closed, so the rankings can swap back and forth. Tesla still holds about 115,000 Bitcoins on its balance sheet, and the two sides were already tightly linked.

Writing “surpassed Tesla” as a trend confirmation is not very meaningful. A more useful way to read it is: at around $81,000, Bitcoin’s market cap is already sufficient to force its way back into the traditional asset rankings—but those rankings themselves don’t provide support. When U.S. markets open on Monday, if Tesla rises and Bitcoin gives back, the ranking can be switched at any time. First, see whether spot prices can hold above $80,000, and then look at this leaderboard.
