The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Financial Services approved the Digital Asset Tax Clarity Act with a vote of 38 to 5 and sent it to the House for consideration. This is the first federal U.S. tax framework for cryptoassets, which benefits Dogecoin in three ways.

First — payments. Under the current rules, buying coffee with Dogecoin is treated as a taxable event, requiring accounting for gains and losses for each transaction, which makes small payments difficult from a tax perspective. The law exempts network and transaction fees from having to confirm gains and losses up to $10, reducing compliance costs in high-frequency scenarios such as tips and transfers, for the first time providing tax support for Dogecoin as an “everyday currency.”

Second — mining. $DOGE uses proof of work and is mined jointly with Litecoin. The law clearly regulates tax accounting for mining rewards, removing miners from the uncertain zone of “virtual income,” increasing certainty in investments in computing power, and strengthening the foundation of network security.

Third — the institutional side. Traders can value assets at market value; providing digital assets for rent is no longer considered a taxable event; foreign investors receive safe-haven status; and, together with the already launched Dogecoin ETF, channels open up for market-making and cross-border capital flows.

Of course, for the law to come into effect it still has to pass the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the president’s signature, and the wash sale rules repeal the old methods of writing off losses. But the tax system is changing from an obstacle into a framework that establishes Dogecoin’s legal status.
