🏗️ Circle bets on "infrastructure" not on the currency
Circle, the company that issues USDC, has launched its own blockchain called Arc. Its CEO, Jeremy Allaire, described it as "more important than USDC itself".
Arc is presented as an "economic operating system" for payments, tokenized assets, and lending. More than 100 institutions participate, including BlackRock, Mastercard, Visa, and DTCC. Fees are paid in USDC, not a volatile native token. There is an ARC token (10 billion were issued), but there has not been a public launch yet, and any real utility has been pushed back to 2027.
Background: BofA, Citi, and Goldman are working on a competing stablecoin, and Stripe has its own series. Circle’s bet is that the winner won’t be the one with the best stablecoin, but the one that has the "pipes" (infrastructure), according to CoinDesk.
