📚 Lesson 29 of 50

❓ Oracle — where does the blockchain get real-world prices?

A nice technical riddle: the smart contract executes a condition like “if Bitcoin reaches price X, then do Y”—but where did it get that price in the first place? The blockchain is a closed system that can’t see anything outside.

The solution is called an Oracle: services that bring real-world data—prices of whatever information—and deliver it to smart contracts in a reliable way.

The key word is “reliable”: if the oracle is tampered with, the contracts will carry out the wrong decisions with real money. And this has actually happened in famous hacks—an attacker tricked the oracle with a fake price, and the contracts followed.

That’s why a reputable oracle gathers the price from dozens of independent sources, not just one—and this is the secret value behind projects like Chainlink, which became a nearly trusted market infrastructure.

Evaluation takeaway: any decentralized financial app—ask first where it gets its data from.

📌 Summary: the blockchain is closed within itself—an oracle provides it with real-world data, and the security of any decentralized financial application depends on the security of its oracle.
