After BTC broke above $80,000, contract open interest didn’t rise along with it.

Binance News recorded 13 hours ago that BTC broke through 80,000 USDT; at the time of the report, the price was 80,192.609375 USDT. As of today at 11:46, the contract price is about 81,134 USDT, with a 24-hour increase of 4.953%.

As the price moves higher, however, open interest fell from 109,272.982 BTC from 24 hours ago to 108,052.777 BTC—down by about 1.1%. The active buy-sell ratio over the most recent hour is 0.7649, and the amount of主动 sells still remains higher than the amount of主动 buys.

The easiest mistake is to take a move above 80,000 as confirmation that contract longs are continuously adding positions. The current data only confirms the price breakout; the leverage side hasn’t yet provided an equally strong signal. Whether it’s spot buying pressure, short covering, or both happening together will lead to completely different follow-through.

Look at trading volume and open interest together, then assess whether this breakout can hold.
