Coinbase files an application with the U.S. CFTC seeking to launch cash-settled single-stock and ETF perpetual futures for the U.S. market. The plan is to go live after obtaining CFTC and other necessary regulatory approvals. The products will cover eligible, highly liquid U.S.-listed stocks and ETFs, with Apple (AAPL) serving as the representative contract. Coinbase previously offered stock perpetual futures to non-U.S. users; this application aims to introduce such products to a U.S. regulated market. As these are security futures products, the relevant contracts will be subject to regulation by both the CFTC and the SEC.
