Howard Buffett, his son, has been elected as the new chairman, and Susan Decker will continue as the chief independent director.
Gregg Abel will take over as CEO at the beginning of 2026, continuing to be responsible for operations; Howard will be in charge of leading the board. In his letter to shareholders, Buffett said that Abel has fully carried out the responsibilities of CEO, performing better than expected, and summarized the division of roles as: Abel handles operations, and Howard protects the company’s culture and values.
Howard, 71, has been a director of Berkshire Hathaway since 1993. The company said the appointment is consistent with its long-term succession plan.
