NYSE Arca just submitted rule changes to the SEC: it plans to list “binary KPI options” — not betting on whether the stock price goes up or down, but instead directly wagering on whether a specific operating metric in the earnings report meets the target—winner-takes-all or cash-settled at zero.

The first batch is expected to cover about 23 companies. For crypto-related firms, Coinbase’s metrics include trading revenue, trading volume, subscription and services revenue, etc.; Marathon Digital’s metrics include bitcoin production, holdings, and hashrate. The mechanism is somewhat like a regulated prediction market, but it’s still in the proposal stage for now. The SEC has only just issued a notice and has not approved it yet.
