Is cryptocurrency in Russia not for the people?
Starting September 22, the Moscow Exchange will launch five perpetual futures at once on cryptocurrency indices — $BTC , Ethereum, $SOL , $XRP , and TRON.
But there is an important limitation: the new instruments will be available only to qualified investors.
This refers to settlement contracts: the investor does not need to buy or hold the actual Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency. The quote will be calculated in US dollars, and settlement under the contracts will be made in Russian rubles.
At the same time, interest in the crypto market on the Russian exchange is already noticeable. According to the Moscow Exchange, since the launch of the first futures on digital assets, more than 72 thousand qualified investors have carried out trades, and the total trading volume has exceeded 600 billion rubles.
This creates a paradoxical situation: the crypto market is gradually emerging within traditional exchange infrastructure, but access to the new instruments is still limited by the status of a qualified investor.
Bitcoin, ETH, SOL, XRP, and TRX are already becoming part of Russia’s regulated financial market — but so far mostly for professional participants.
