According to CNBC, General Motors released details of the engine lineup for its 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks, including two new V-8 engines, a carryover inline-six-cylinder diesel engine and an enhanced four-cylinder turbocharged option. GM said the updated trucks are intended to extend its six straight years of sales leadership in the full-size pickup segment over Ford and Stellantis parent Chrysler.

GM President Mark Reuss said the company wants to maintain truck leadership, while the automaker said development of its Gen 6 Small Block engine began in 2018, well before the Trump administration's moves to cut EV incentives and ease fuel-economy rules. GM also said most of its full-size pickup sales this year have been V-8 models, including 55% of Chevy Silverado sales and about 61% of GMC Sierra 1500 sales, while the 3.0-liter TurboMax diesel accounts for 20% of Sierra 1500 sales and 35% of Silverado 1500 sales.

The article said GM's pickup sales through the first half of this year were flat for Sierra and down 4.6% for Silverado, compared with a 19% increase for Ram and a 13% decline for Ford's F-Series. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has also opened an investigation into GM's 6.2-liter V-8 over continued failures, and GM said it is cooperating with the agency.
