Hong Kong's government has released its 2026 policy address, outlining plans to further expand the use of digital assets in traditional financial markets. According to ChainCatcher, the Securities and Futures Commission will improve the virtual asset licensing regime and the regulatory framework for tokenized investment products, while promoting the issuance and trading of gold and other suitable RWAs on licensed platforms.
Hong Kong also plans to make digital bond issuance routine and explore the full lifecycle use of digital currencies for settlement, coupon payments, and redemption. According to ChainCatcher, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority will test the tokenized operation of more than HK$1.3 trillion in Exchange Fund Bills before year-end and aims to enable CBDC settlement and 24/7 operation for EnsembleTX by year-end.
