Lemot telecom operator VIVA has migrated some financial infrastructure to Avalanche via Iris network.
Bolivia’s long-established telecom carrier (and also expanding into Mexico) was the first telecommunications company to go live on Iris: it uses Agora-issued USD stablecoin USDi for settlement, and can also place compliant operating reserves on the USD side rather than in local currency. Iris is led by Jules Miller, a former IBM blockchain partner. With the operators integrating existing identity/billing/channel systems, they can launch services like payments without having to replace the core systems. Balesia Group provided a commitment of about $43 million; Ava Labs said that in emerging markets, mobile carriers are often the “track” where users end up doing everything.
