Many users have complained about something in recent years; the experience of browsing the internet has changed drastically. What used to be a space for exploration where we discovered diverse content, varied opinions, and independent creators has been transformed into a homogeneous stream of short videos, trending audio, and posts designed using the same template. More and more people experience a clear "algorithmic fatigue," the feeling that no matter which platform we open, we’re seeing the exact same thing over and over again.

Web2 social networks base their business model on maximizing users’ attention time in order to sell advertising. To achieve this, recommendation algorithms optimize content by showing only what generates an immediate reaction or quick retention. The direct result of this system is the creation of “echo bubbles” and cultural homogenization. Content creators, forced to adapt to algorithm metrics to avoid becoming invisible, end up replicating the same successful formulas, sacrificing originality and diversity along the way.

The underlying problem is not recommendation itself, but the lack of control over the rules of the game. In the traditional model, the user does not own their feed or their data; they are a passive spectator within a closed, opaque algorithm designed by a corporation.

This is where the Web3 ecosystem and decentralized social networks propose a paradigm shift. Through open protocols like CyberConnect ($CYBER ) or Galxe ($GAL ), the digital profile, the social graph (your connections and followers), and the history of interactions belong to the user—not the platform.

This opens the door to two fundamental innovations:

Eligible algorithms: The ability to choose what kind of algorithm you want to sort your feed (one focused on learning, one on art, or one strictly chronological of your friends) instead of being subject to a single corporate algorithm.

Network portability: If a platform changes its policies or ruins the user experience, users can take their followers and content to a different app without having to start from scratch.

Giving content control back to users and creators is the first step toward breaking out of the cycle of mass repetition. The technology to build a more diverse and indivisible web is already in motion, and its success will depend on how much we value our own freedom of digital choice.
