CFTC Chair Mike Selig said the agency will use its existing statutory authorities to advance crypto legislation after lawmakers blocked the Clarity Act. According to NS3.AI, the bill failed to secure the 60 votes needed to move forward in a procedural vote.

The proposed legislation would have divided oversight of digital assets among regulators. The SEC has also proposed a framework for crypto asset offerings.
