U.S. House Committee Passes Bill to Codify a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve
On Wednesday, the U.S. Congress took a step toward codifying an executive order that would have President Trump establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve. According to Cointelegraph, the House Financial Services Committee passed the (2026 U.S. Reserve Modernization Act) (H.R. 8957) by a vote of 28 to 21.
The bill would establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve at the Treasury and an independent digital asset depository to manage the Bitcoin held by the federal government and other digital assets acquired through criminal or civil forfeiture. The bill would also require federal agencies to disclose the digital assets they hold or control, and to submit quarterly “reserve proof” reports and undergo third-party audits.
