🇻🇪💰 The Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) tightened its monetary policy by raising penalties for banks that fail to meet mandatory reserve requirements and increasing some deposit and credit rates. The measures aim to reduce the amount of bolívars in circulation in anticipation of higher government spending and lower dollar sales in the foreign exchange market.
According to Síntesis Financiera, the BCV has sold around US$11.000 million in the foreign exchange market during 2026 to contain the bolívar’s depreciation. The firm warns that this pace is «unsustainable», since it is equivalent to 58% of oil exports.
