Ripple is taking XRP beyond crypto circles — and into college sports. 🏟️
Ripple’s long-running University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI), launched in 2018, was created to support blockchain research, education, and technical development. The program now covers 60+ universities across 27 countries, with more than 800 fintech courses and around 1,500 blockchain research projects supported, according to Ripple.
Kansas is a notable example. The university joined UBRI in 2019 following a $2 million Ripple commitment, with work including an XRP Ledger validator and blockchain projects across several fields.
Now, that relationship has moved from the classroom to the stadium.
Ripple and Kansas Athletics agreed to a five-year sponsorship featuring XRP patches on athletic uniforms. Kansas says this is the first major college athletics jersey integration involving a cryptocurrency.
For XRP, this is more about long-term visibility and mainstream exposure than short-term price action.
