What’s truly interesting about CZ’s tweet may not be “another Meme has appeared,” but rather that it accidentally opened up a very Crypto-native experimental direction: can digital life really be brought onto the chain?

Fruit flies themselves are an extremely important model organism in neuroscience. In recent years, with advances in connectomics, brain-computer interfaces, and AI, humans have begun to attempt to digitize and model the nervous systems of real biological organisms.

If we further combine this kind of digitized “fruit-fly brain” with blockchain, things start to get interesting.

Blockchain doesn’t provide a way for a real fruit fly to gain biological immortality; instead, it enables a digital life form to have an on-chain identity and historical state that is public, ongoing, verifiable, and difficult to be changed unilaterally.

It can die, be reactivated, generate new states, and also continuously interact with the external environment.

This means that what the concept of “eternal fruit fly” is really trying to discuss is actually a bigger question:

Once a living being’s structure, state, memories, and behavior can all be digitized, can it exist independently of its original biological carrier, continuing to live on as digital life?

And that’s exactly the most interesting part of memes.

The lifecycle of a traditional meme fundamentally depends on attention; but if a meme itself becomes a technical experiment that can be continuously developed, then it has the chance to evolve from a mere cultural symbol into a crypto experiment with products, a community, and on-chain economic mechanisms.

So I think what’s truly worth observing now isn’t “if CZ said this, will $FLY go up,” but rather what the eternal fruit fly experiment on the BNB Chain will ultimately be able to achieve.

If in the end it really can form a digital life form with an on-chain identity, a nervous system, a lifecycle, and the ability for ongoing interaction, then the significance of this story is no longer just an animal meme.

It connects five completely different fields—meme, AI, neuroscience, digital life, and blockchain.

That’s also why I think this #EternalFruitFly is worth serious attention.
