🏦 Poles lost $230 million on oil and USDT

The Polish state company Orlen transferred $230 million in advance to a Dubai-based trader for Venezuelan oil. Then the money was converted into USDT, and, according to FT, access to tens of millions of stablecoins was passed to intermediaries in Caracas literally on flash drives.

One of the intermediaries was granted access to roughly 110 million USDT—after that, contact with him disappeared. In the end, almost no oil arrived, and Orlen’s total losses, as estimated by the Polish government, amount to at least $424 million.

Now the company is trying to recover $230 million.
