⚠️ ORLEN SUED/REPORTED TO HAVE LOST 424 MILLION USD IN A VENEZUELA OIL DEAL INVOLVING USDT

According to the Financial Times, Poland’s state-owned energy group Orlen is believed to have suffered losses of around 424 million USD through its trading company OTS in Switzerland after a failed oil deal with Venezuela related to payments made in USDT.

OTS paid in advance about 230 million USD to buy 6 million barrels of Merey 16 oil, but most of the oil was not delivered. The incident involved significant shipping costs, a criminal investigation in Poland, and allegations against former Orlen executives.

👉 The case shows that stablecoins can support cross-border payments, but they still come with counterparty and transaction risks if there is no strict control mechanism.
