The U.S. House Financial Services Committee is scheduled to consider H.R. 8957, the American Reserve Modernization Act, on Wednesday, September 16.

The bill would establish a framework for managing $BTC held by the U.S. government and create a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, making the issue part of a formal congressional process.

This is an important step because the vote would move the Bitcoin reserve proposal deeper into the legislative process, although committee approval would not make it law.

An executive order in 2025 established the U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and directed the government to hold on to its existing Bitcoin.

For Bitcoin, Wednesday’s committee action could provide another clear signal of how seriously the U.S. is treating BTC as a government reserve asset.
