According to The Korea Herald, Samsung Electronics and SK hynix rejected Korea Electric Power Corp.'s proposal to prepay a combined 25 trillion won ($18.4 billion) in electricity bills for the next five years. Industry sources said the two chipmakers informed the state-run utility after internal reviews found it would be difficult to justify committing such a large amount of cash upfront amid uncertainty over the longer-term semiconductor cycle.
