Grab drivers banded together to turn off the app on September 12-13 due to dissatisfaction with fare pricing, fees, discounts, and the actual amount they receive after each ride. There have been reports that deductions could amount to nearly 50% of the ride fare, while fuel, maintenance, and vehicle depreciation are still borne by the drivers themselves.
Currently, the National Competition Commission has stepped in, asking Grab to provide documents on how fares, fees, discounts, and deductions are calculated for review.
GRAB stock also hasn’t had a very pleasant week, dropping by more than 10% over five sessions around the time the drama broke out.
