Looks like you don’t need to worry about AI threat talk tonight anymore—stocks have not crashed. Trump, who represents the U.S. government, has formally rejected representatives from the companies behind Claude, ChatGPT, and Grok, and has called for slowing down the development of frontier AI.
And the underlying reason, as we’d previously speculated, is that slowing down would give up their advantage to China—allowing China to overtake them in a curved lane.
Especially now, with the U.S. and China engaged in all-out competition in areas like chips, AI, and new energy, no politician wants to take on the cost for it.
In fact, the calls to slow down are currently coming only from the very top players; the second tier, such as Meta’s Muse, did not speak up over the weekend. Going forward, it will most likely turn into an even more intense arms race.
Once the train of the times gets moving, no one can make it stop.
