And today, the conversation has turned into something else entirely—AI is moving into one of the most central domains of human knowledge production.
There are even Fields Medal winners who have openly discussed and opposed AI participating in math problem-solving.
This isn’t simply a matter of increasing parameters, or a certain tool becoming better. It’s that an inorganic intelligence has begun to enter the most core cognitive domain of human civilization.
Seeing AI as a more advanced civilization is difficult for humans to accept. Because we’re used to placing ourselves at the very top of civilization. But as carbon-based organisms, we also have to acknowledge that human lifespans are limited, memory is limited, computing power is limited, and the pace of evolution is even more limited.
AI doesn’t have these natural constraints. Even more frightening is that human evolution is measured in thousands or tens of thousands of years.
But AI’s iteration may be measured in months or years.
So the real issue is no longer “Is AI a tool?”
Rather, it’s this: “What will this new intelligence that humans are creating ultimately become?”
From an individual perspective, AI is a civilization that is wiser and more efficient than humans.
We are creating a civilization that may ultimately surpass our own—yet we can’t truly stop creating it.
