Let’s get to the point first: Grayscale is once again following the familiar path—renaming the trust to an ETF, and waiting for the exchange rules to clear.

On September 11, Grayscale Litecoin Trust filed an S-3/A with the SEC (an amendment). The filing states that once the registration statement becomes effective and the shares are listed on NYSE Arca, the sponsor intends to change the name to the Grayscale Litecoin Trust ETF, while the trading ticker remains focused on LTCN.

The key point is not the renaming, but the matter of 19b-4.

On January 24, 2025, NYSE Arca filed Rule 19b-4 for this trust. As of the date of this filing, the application has not yet been approved. The trust states clearly that if approved or determined to be no longer necessary, it will not seek the effectiveness of the registration statement and will not offer shares based on it.

Structurally, this is an OTC trust trying to squeeze into the exchange-listed ETF pipeline: authorized participants can create/redeem at NAV, and only the premium/discount gives opportunities for arbitrage to keep it in check. Currently, it’s still an OTC LTCN (since Jan 2018), with none of the standard ETF basket mechanism.

A few verifiable figures (from secondary compilation / filing disclosure terminology):

- As of 2026-06-30, about 24.25 million shares outstanding, NAV about $82.28 million, roughly $3.39 per share NAV

- Early 2025 AUM once exceeded $215 million, but by mid-year it was around the $82 million level—shrinkage itself also signals that when the product format gets stuck, money votes with its feet

- The annualized sponsor fee is about 2.5%, clearly higher than the level of mainstream spot $BTC ETFs

Coinbase is the lead broker, and Coinbase Custody provides custody; the filing says it’s set up to prepare for future creation/redemption, not that it can be listed today.

My take: this isn’t that “$LTC ETF has been approved”; it’s Grayscale running the conversion playbook used for GBTC / an Ethereum trust and pushing it to the next card. For $LTC itself, in the near term it’s more like a regulatory progress bar getting lit up; the real inflection point will wait for 19b-4.

What’s worth watching is: for U.S. spot channels, the main narrative right now is still $BTC and $ETH; which altcoin trust gets into Arca first is the signal that the next round of “tradable menu” expansion is coming.
