The UK crypto industry is entering a phase of regulatory implementation, with the Financial Conduct Authority set to open its crypto asset authorization application window on September 30. According to ChainCatcher, the new regulatory regime is expected to take effect in October 2027.

Zumo founder and CEO Nick Jones said long-standing regulatory uncertainty and counterparty risk had made financial institutions cautious about the UK crypto market, rather than reflecting a lack of interest in digital assets. He added that clearer rules are drawing traditional financial firms such as Hargreaves Lansdown into the market, while the industry is expected to move away from offshore operations, startup-style processes, and unregulated models, increasing the importance of compliance infrastructure and local service providers.
