Wintermute Deposited About 61,847 ETH (Approximately $161.8 Million) to Exchanges

According to cross-verification of on-chain monitoring accounts such as Lookonchain and Arkham, market maker Wintermute, during a three-hour window from 21:15 on September 11 to 00:15 on September 12 (UTC+8), cumulatively transferred 61,847 ETH to exchanges such as Binance, valued at roughly $160.3 million at the time. Depositing into an exchange does not necessarily mean the selling has been completed—it may also correspond to inventory rotation, customer settlements, or derivative hedging. However, the timing coincided with a sensitive period when Ethereum had a short-term surge followed by a pullback, which is why it has been widely discussed across Chinese-speaking communities.

During the same trading window, $ETH briefly surged to around $2,667 before falling back. Multiple media outlets, citing CoinGlass data, said that within 24 hours the liquidation volume of Ethereum-related contracts ranked among the top across all assets, and short-term volatility was significantly amplified by leveraged positions. Before and around the morning of September 12, CoinGecko quoted prices near about $2,516. Over the prior 24 hours, it still recorded an increase of roughly 2.3%, suggesting that even after the surge and pullback, the intraday structure remained relatively strong.

For Binance’s spot order book, inflows from large market makers can increase the available tradable inventory and make the order book deeper. But whether the sell pressure actually materializes still depends on subsequent net outflows and executed trades. Over the next few days, continue to watch changes in exchange balances, as well as how macro pricing around the FOMC on September 15–16 may influence $ETH . Position sizing and risk management should be handled by you.
