Deep tide TechFlow message: On September 12, according to CoinDesk, the legal dispute involving FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried is entering its final chapter. SBF, who was sentenced to 25 years in prison in March 2026 for multiple counts of fraud, had his criminal conviction appeal rejected by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in June of the same year. As early as April, he attempted to seek a retrial on the grounds of “inability to obtain a fair trial,” but ultimately chose to temporarily withdraw the motion, while keeping the possibility of re-filing it later.
At present, the outcome of the case will depend on the final result of his clemency petition. In July of this year, the Senate voted unanimously against granting SBF a pardon. Despite being held in federal prison, he still faces more than $11 billion in asset forfeiture orders, and under the current sentencing rules, he will only be eligible to apply for early release as early as around 2044.
