I’ve watched enough CPI reactions over the years to stop caring too much about the first green candle. The headline moves quickly, but liquidity usually tells the real story much later.
A hotter print can bring back the whole “higher for longer” conversation, and that changes how people actually move capital. Traders become less willing to chase risk, dollars get tighter, and crypto can start feeling a lot thinner underneath the surface. I’ve seen this play out more times than I can count.
But I keep noticing something else too. A softer inflation number doesn’t automatically mean the market is healthy. Crypto can pump hard on the headline, everyone starts feeling better, and then a few hours later the move disappears because the actual flow of capital never really changed.
That’s why I’m watching what happens underneath the price now. Stablecoin supply, BTC liquidity, DeFi activity, and whether money actually starts moving beyond the majors.
I’m not sure yet what this CPI cycle will bring. And honestly, I don’t fully trust the first reaction anymore.
The interesting part isn’t whether CPI makes crypto pump or dump.
It’s whether the liquidity created by those expectations actually stays in the system.
After enough cycles, I’ve learned one thing:
Headlines move candles.
Liquidity moves markets.
