The print landed at 8:30. Or maybe the statement never was the thing that moved. The September contract jumped first eighty five percent, then closer to ninety. Core printed three-tenths instead of two. Small miss on a spreadsheet, until you remember the same range has been sitting there all year and everyone has been calling the stillness discipline.

I kept waiting for the gasoline line to get waved off as weather. It didn’t, not in the rooms that matter. Energy is supposed to be the noisy layer, and then core fails to decay on the schedule they published, and a hold starts to look less like patience than a stall.

Warsh already said there would be work to do if they could not be confident the path was clearing. This morning it wasn’t. By midday the second hike was in the tape. That part sits wrong. One twenty-five is a ping. Two might just mean they didn’t believe the first one.

I am not sure a quarter point reaches diesel or shelter on any useful lag. It does change the cost of waiting. That may be the only lever they still trust. Next week we see whether they write it as a single correction or they don’t write it at all and we infer from the dots.
