Wu Dao learned that the Japanese financial technology company Netstars has announced that it has signed an MOU with the Kaia DLT Foundation. The plan is to integrate stablecoins on Kaia into its StarPay and Stablecoin Pay, helping to drive the adoption of stablecoins in Asia for use in Japan’s in-person retail locations and in cross-border payment scenarios. Both parties will explore stablecoins pegged to the Korean won, Hong Kong dollar, New Taiwan dollar, and the major fiat currencies in Southeast Asia, and will study models that allow travelers visiting Japan to pay with stablecoins while merchants settle in yen. Netstars’ payments network currently covers around 700,000 merchant locations in Japan, with an annual payment processing volume exceeding $13 billion.
