$PONS Hyperliquid’s top short seller turns a huge loss into a floating profit

The short position of Hyperliquid’s current largest short trader, Loracle, on $PONS has been successfully flipped from a significant unrealized loss to a floating profit.

According to Arkham data, Loracle opened the position at $0.44. During a period when PONS surged to as high as $0.97, he kept adding to the position, at one point showing an unrealized loss of more than $8 million. As the coin price pulled back, his current holding of roughly $16.3 million has turned into a floating profit of about $2.18 million. Another independent monitoring source shows that the 27.75 million PONS short units (about $17.12 million) held by Loracle—also—recovered from a maximum unrealized loss of $7.75 million to a floating profit of around $1.38 million. Although the exact figures differ slightly between the two sets of data, the direction is consistent: both confirm the overall trend that this short trade has moved from loss to profit.

This is a typical “hold the position and wait for the reversal” case: a whale chose not to cut the position despite the price continuing to rise and the paper loss growing steadily. Instead, he increased the bet on the short—until the price corrected, turning the trade from loss to profit. Such a strategy requires extremely strong capital and psychological resilience. Ordinary investors can hardly replicate it. A floating profit also does not mean the gains are already secured; the position could turn back to a loss at any time if the price rebounds. Before following a whale’s positioning to trade, you must think clearly about how much drawdown you can tolerate.
