🇮🇳 SEBI Launches “Demat 2.0” for Tokenized Bonds
India is taking a major step toward tokenized real-world assets (RWA).
SEBI has launched a pilot using private permissioned DLT to tokenize corporate bonds and settle transactions through the RBI’s wholesale digital rupee (e₹).
Already issued through the system:
🔹 REC: ₹500 crore
🔹 L&T: ₹500 crore
🔹 IIFL Finance: ₹25 crore
➡️ Total: ₹1,025 crore
The next phase is expected to introduce secondary trading and retail investor access.
This could mark an important milestone for India’s blockchain, tokenization and CBDC ecosystem, bringing traditional securities closer to on-chain settlement.
