CPI Watch: NFP Beat Expectations — Will the Fed Hike or Hold?
162K jobs. Honestly, that number caught my attention.
Nonfarm payrolls beat expectations, and with CPI around the corner, I’m asking the big question: will the Fed hike or hold?
The US added 162K jobs in August, far above the roughly 55K forecast. Unemployment stayed at 4.1%.
That is a strong jobs report. For the Fed, it also means there is less pressure to keep rates unchanged.
Now CPI is the part I’m watching closely.
If inflation comes in hotter than expected, the case for a hike gets stronger. If CPI comes in soft, the Fed could have more room to hold.
My take: Fed Hike.
I’m leaning this way because the jobs market is holding up better than expected, while inflation is still above the Fed’s 2% target. Recent PPI data has also added to the inflation concern.
For me, CPI is the deciding piece.
Will CPI give the Fed the final reason to hike, or give them a reason to wait?
Right now, I’m on the hike side.
what you think, What will the Fed do next?
