《Fortune》 News: ConsenSys officially splits MetaMask. The wallet business becomes an independent, consumer-focused company, with Joe Lubin personally serving as CEO. The remaining institutional agreements and the Ethereum software business continue under the ConsenSys name, led by Mike Kriak, while Lubin becomes Executive Chairman.

The rationale is straightforward: the growth and value release of the MetaMask consumer-side business has clearly outpaced other segments. The newly launched Master Account now supports managing crypto assets and fiat with a single account, as well as card spending via debit cards backed by Mastercard. It also extends to perpetual futures and prediction markets, clearly evolving toward a crypto super-entry point.

Two key questions the market cares about remain unanswered: the IPO plan was previously put on hold due to a crypto market downturn, and Lubin has not provided a timeline. Earlier hints about a MetaMask native token have also turned more cautious; under today’s regulatory and commercial environment, issuing tokens is no longer a priority option.

This means the largest Ethereum wallet is shifting from a “browser extension tool” to an independent financial platform. But without a token narrative, in the short term, what’s worth watching more is user growth, compliance capability, and actual revenue—not just waiting for an airdrop.
