[Hotspot] The Liquid Network sidechain of Blockstream suffered a software vulnerability attack, with about 4,000 BTC (about $320 million USD) extracted under the name of a “white hat.” The attacker has returned 3,400 BTC, keeping roughly 598 BTC as a bounty.

[Breakdown] The attacker exploited a range-proof cache vulnerability in Liquid’s underlying Elements code to mint L-BTC without real reserves, then used SideSwap’s normal redemption flow to swap for real coins and withdraw them—this was not due to a private key leak. The 11/15 multisig itself was not broken; what was compromised was the upstream verification logic. At present, the bridged nodes have been patched, the network remains paused, multiple exchanges have suspended L-BTC deposits/withdrawals, and the roughly 598 BTC (about $47 million USD) has not been returned so far.

[Impact] Slightly bearish in the short term: the event severely damages trust in the sidechain and cross-chain bridge, but the BTC mainnet is unaffected, and the vast majority of funds have already been recovered. The direct impact on the broader market is limited—more of a warning on sentiment and architecture.

[Action] If you hold L-BTC or related assets, first confirm the exchange’s deposit/withdrawal status and don’t rush to buy the “discount” through dip-buying. For cross-chain bridge / federal custody-style projects, focus on validation-mechanism risks; prioritize position control, and ensure single-trade risk does not exceed 2%.

[WARN] The above is a market information compilation and does not constitute investment advice. Strictly control position sizing; single-trade risk must not exceed 2%
