Shares of Freeport-McMoRan (NYSE: FCX), the largest copper producer listed on U.S. exchanges, surged sharply on Tuesday after copper futures on the London Metal Exchange (LME) touched a record level during the trading session of $14,694.00 per ton, surpassing the previous record of $14,527.50 set in January 2026.

According to the company’s sensitivity model, every 10-cent increase in the copper price adds about $390 million to Freeport-McMoRan’s annual earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA), making Tuesday’s benchmark event a highly impactful one for real-time earnings.
