Wall Street is currently closely watching the size of the long-dated Treasury repo operations that the U.S. Department of the Treasury is expected to announce. Under the leadership of the new Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, the Treasury is preparing to roll out repo operations. Market analysts generally expect the single-tranche size could be in the range of $5 billion to $6 billion. Institutions such as Morgan Stanley believe that, given fiscal constraints, the upper limit could potentially reach $10 billion. Barclays analysts, meanwhile, expect the official guidance may leave room for flexibility, using a more open-ended phrasing such as “at least $4 billion each time.”

The reason this has drawn significant attention is that if the repo size truly reaches the $10 billion cap, the quarterly net issuance of U.S. Treasuries with maturities of 20 years and above could be directly reduced by roughly 55%. Against the backdrop of the U.S.’s massive debt burden and the ongoing liquidity tug-of-war, this is not merely a routine operation, but an important signal of the Treasury actively managing the shape of the yield curve.

For traditional macro markets, Bloomberg strategists noted that if the repo size comes in above expectations, the market will likely interpret it as a strong policy intervention signal, which could, in the short term, push down yields on long-dated U.S. Treasuries; the 30-year swap spread would also directly reflect changes in the supply-demand landscape. However, given the enormous size of the overall U.S. Treasury market, the actual boost to total liquidity from the repos remains to be seen.

Mapped to the crypto market, if long-dated U.S. Treasury yields are suppressed and move lower, it would theoretically help ease broader liquidity tightness, giving risk assets—including $BTC —some breathing room. But if the repo size ultimately lands only within a conservative range, the direct stimulus to liquidity conditions in the crypto market may be limited, and the market will most likely continue to maintain its current choppy, range-bound assessment framework.#美债 #流动性 #宏观经济
