😦It looks like a joke, but the numbers grab your attention.
Between 2021 and 2026, some staple foods sold in Brazil rose in nominal value more than Bitcoin when the comparison is made in reais.
☕ Ground coffee: +131.55%
🍫 Chocolate/“cocoa” powder: +79.56%
🍜 Instant noodles (Miojo): +56.64%
Bitcoin: +50.70%
In the analyzed period, BTC went from approximately R$ 274.5 thousand to R$ 413.7 thousand. Even though it lagged behind those three products, it still outperformed Brazil’s official cumulative inflation of 31.45%.

🔥 And when we look at other cryptocurrencies, the contrast gets even bigger.
The $XRP advanced only 0.98% in reais, moving from about R$ 7.25 to R$ 7.32. Meanwhile, Ethereum fell 36.88%, from roughly R$ 20.4 thousand to R$ 12.9 thousand. Adjusted for inflation, both saw even more pressure on purchasing power.
But there’s an important caveat: the periods aren’t exactly identical. Foods use the accumulated IPCA from July 2021 to July 2026, while cryptocurrencies use prices from September 6, 2021 and September 6, 2026.
And it wasn’t “all food” that beat Bitcoin. The Food and Beverages group rose 35.63%. The extreme result came from products affected by weather, supply, harvests, and international costs.

🔥 The provocation is inevitable:
In five years, saving coffee would have appreciated more than saving $BTC ?
Not as a practical investment, of course—but the comparison shows how specific food inflation can be brutal.

💭 What surprises you more: Coffee +131% or XRP almost flat in reais?
