Oil prices continued to gain during Tuesday’s trading, reaching their highest levels in several weeks, as fears grew that the conflict in the Middle East could turn into a long-term confrontation. This came after Iran threatened to respond to any new U.S. attacks targeting its assets, increasing concerns about the likelihood of oil supply disruptions.

Brent crude futures rose by about $1.25, or 1.3%, to $98.25 per barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude also climbed to $93.70 per barrel, up by $2.22, or 2.4%.

Earlier, Brent crude had risen to $98.79 per barrel, its highest level since July 24, while WTI reached $94.21 per barrel, its highest level since June 8.
