🚀 Solana increases transaction size by 3.3x

As early as September 9, Solana plans to activate a new Transaction v1 format on mainnet.

The maximum size of a single transaction will increase:

1 232 → 4 096 bytes 📈

This will allow more data to fit into one transaction and enable more complex operations—for example, using cryptographic proofs, advanced multisig operations, and some private transfers.

💡 For a regular user, the main thing is: nothing needs to be done. Older transaction formats will continue to work.

But developers and infrastructure services—RPCs, indexers, explorers—will need to support the new format. Otherwise, errors may occur when reading new transactions or when displaying data incorrectly.

🔎 Why does Solana need this?

One of the main goals is to remove some of the limitations that arose from the small transaction size and give the network more room for complex applications.

This is not related to the recent vote on issuance and burning $SOL — it’s a separate technical update.

This is a change that may seem small at first, but it could be very significant for the growth of DeFi, private transactions, and more complex Web3 applications on Solana. ⚡️
