📚 Lesson 17 out of 50

❓ What does “trend” mean? And why do they say “Don’t fight the market”?

The most famous trading phrase: “The trend is your friend” — so what exactly is a trend?

A trend is the general direction of price when you look from far away:
📈 Uptrend: Higher highs than the previous ones, and higher lows — buyers are in control.
📉 Downtrend: Lower highs and lower lows — sellers are in control.
↔️ Sideways: Price is trapped between two zones, moving back and forth — the market is indecisive and waiting for a decisive move.

The classic beginner mistake: You see a coin in a clear downtrend and say, “This is too much, it’s definitely going to rebound,” then you buy — and the price continues falling. That’s called “catching the falling knife.”

One last important point: Trends differ depending on the timeframe — a coin in an uptrend on the 1-hour chart might be in a downtrend on the weekly chart. Decide first which time range you’re looking at — and let the bigger picture be your reference.

📌 Summary: The trend is the market’s overall direction: up, down, or sideways — know it first, because fighting it is the most expensive lesson in trading.
