Shares in Austal (ASX:ASB) rose on Monday after the Australian shipbuilder confirmed it had held preliminary discussions with US firm Wildcat Infrastructure about a potential bid for its US operations, adding a second potential suitor to a sale process that already includes South Korea's Hanwha.
Austal shares rose 2.30% to A$4.43 in early trading, having earlier touched A$4.50, their highest level since 12/08. The stock outperformed the broader S&P/ASX 200 index, which was also higher but by a smaller margin at the time.
