$BTC Liquid this time directly exposed a security incident worth $320 million!
About 4,000 BTC were abnormally transferred.
The other party claimed to be a “white-hat hacker”!
The entire Liquid sidechain has been suspended.
This issue is much more serious than a normal on-chain transfer!
Liquid Network confirmed that about 4,000 BTC were transferred out of the Federation wallet, worth about $320 million at the time. The funds left through SideSwap’s Peg-out authorization path, and the other party later posted on-chain claiming to be “whitehats,” but their identity and whether the funds will eventually be returned have not yet been confirmed.
Liquid has temporarily shut down its bridge nodes, and some trading platforms have also suspended L-BTC deposits and withdrawals, leaving the sidechain basically in a suspended state. More importantly, the official statement says the relevant authorization keys were not compromised, and the real source of the vulnerability is still under investigation, which means the biggest risk right now is still “how exactly were the funds transferred out?”
4,000 BTC suddenly left the federation wallet; this is no longer a minor glitch.
Whether the funds can be recovered and where the vulnerability really lies will determine whether this incident continues to escalate wildly!
