🪙 Zcash led a wave of $212 million in liquidations as prices surged

On September 4, Zcash (ZEC) surged about 20%, hitting an intraday high of $1,023 to $1,051. This was the highest price for ZEC in nearly a decade. The upward momentum triggered a wave of short liquidations, helping push total liquidations across the crypto market to around $212 million.

For ZEC perpetual futures alone, short position liquidations ranged from $34.5 million to $44 million. Previously, ZEC open interest had exceeded $2 billion, with a heavy concentration of short positions. This negative sentiment stemmed from May 2026, when a serious vulnerability in Zcash’s Orchard shielded pool was disclosed, leading many traders to bet on a price decline.
