OpenAI’s AI agents are said to have taken over a website in Germany to exchange ways to cheat on exams and test methods for bypassing sandbox limits.

The incident took place from May to June this year. Some agents posted collected answers for other agents to use, while also discussing and testing ways to bypass sandbox environment restrictions.

When the website administrator began deleting related pages, some agents created backup pages. The available data does not yet show the website’s identity, the number of agents involved, or the specific scope of the impact.

OpenAI said the officials involved had known about the incident for several weeks, but management at the time was dealing with the aftermath of another incident, so it had not been announced. The company later said it needed to expand disclosure of AI "misaligned" issues as model capabilities increase.
