The correlation between Bitcoin and gold has reached its highest level in nearly six years
The two assets have shown such tight linkage for the first time since 2020.
The 90-day rolling correlation between Bitcoin and gold has risen to about 0.50 as of August 31, 2026
This is the highest level since the 2020 peak, and is in what many traders call the "low-correlation" range
When $XAUT correlation is 1.00, it means the two assets move completely in sync
0.00 means no relationship
-1.00 means complete inverse movement
At present, the 90-day correlation is close to 0.50, shown as a box at the far right of the chart
The last similar high point appeared in 2020
During 2022 to 2025, the correlation spent a long time fluctuating around zero or slightly negative values
Correlation between -0.50 and 0.50 is still considered low correlation or no correlation in the traditional sense
As the relationship between Bitcoin and gold strengthens, it usually means both are being used as hedges against dollar, interest-rate, or inflation risks
It also means that if this demand weakens, Bitcoin may follow gold lower
A correlation of 0.50 is tighter than most of the past six years
But it does not mean Bitcoin has become gold
Bitcoin-gold 90-day correlation is close to 0.50, the highest since 2020
